A little bit about me:

Lauryn Carney (They/She/iel/elle) is a Queer Drama Therapist and a Registered Psychotherapist-Qualifying. They are Franco-Ontarienne from Northern Ontario and is bilingual in both French and English. Having walked a path of mental health , wellness, and self-discovery, Lauryn believes that no one is broken; instead, individuals possess the incredible capacity to adapt and find self-compassion and admit life's challenges and society’s violence. Over the years, Lauryn has dabbled in various artistic mediums and incorporates this creativity in every aspect of their life. Identifying as a Clown Witch, Lauryn uses a creative, goofy, nature-based, intentional, and embodied approach to therapy! 🤡🖤🌙

Areas of experience:

Lauryn has worked with many different populations, such as indigenous youth, women who have lived through gender-based violence, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC youth, and general mental health populations. They have experience working individually and with groups, adapting the sessions to each individual's needs and rhythm.

Lauryn is passionate about working with marginalized youth and young adults, such as 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodiverse individuals. Using dramatic therapeutic techniques, they will help clients externalize and play out parts of themselves, their inner worlds, and the roles they hold in their lives.

Therapeutic approach:

Lauryn offers drama therapy and works from a trauma-informed, strength-based and humanistic approach. Believing that each person's journey is uniquely their own, they strive to provide a safe enough space to explore new perspectives through creative expression that can flow and adapt with the individual. Thus, challenging societies perpetrated violence and harsh expectations, which often lead to anxiety, stress, and traumatization. Their mission is to help individuals break free from these limiting beliefs and discover their true and unique selves. Ultimately, we take a look at what you want from your own therapy, and I provide creative ways to work towards your goal

.What is Drama Therapy: Drama Therapy uses various dramatic techniques to encourage self-reflection and externalize parts of themselves. Techniques such as role-play, story making, mask work, puppets, art, and movement can serve as a catalyst to express feelings, emotions, and difficult lived experiences. This encourages individuals to explore new roles and fosters spontaneity, creativity, emotional expression, authenticity, and self-attunement. No theatre experience needed! I start where you are comfortable and we work from there.
